The CLI group of companies started in 2005 with the founding of Canadian Mortgages Inc. (#10601), a licensed mortgage brokerage in multiple Canadian provinces.
Bryan Jaskolka, VP and one of the founders of the CLI Group, grew the mortgage brokerage into a specialist in private mortgage financing over the next 5 years. In 2010, the Canadian Mortgages Inc. underwriting and lending division was founded with an emphasis on private mortgage investments, risk management, and as a wholesaler of non-bank funds throughout Canada.
Initial funding for our private investments was provided by the brokerage and a few key initial investors. Our approach was very simple: Carefully review all aspects of each transaction including the borrower’s character, their credit, their capacity to pay, the collateral security, and their capital position. Whatever we did, we needed to make sure that we never lost any money first and foremost. After that, return was our next consideration.
Over the next five years, this part of our practice would grow significantly, and would also lead to the creation of Canadian Servicing Inc. (#11938), a licensed Mortgage Administrator which manages a high percentage of the overall loans we originate.
Our lending division is comprised of a growing team of residential and commercial underwriters, fulfillment staff, mortgage administrators, management, and investor relations personnel.
Today we are now funding dozens of mortgages at any given time with an increasing trajectory, and we have established many strong regional relationships with lawyers, appraisers, and real estate agents to ensure that our operations run smoothly and effectively.
